Hello children, Doombull here with some insight on the wonderful sequel to the enigma that is Left Four Dead (L4D). L4D2 was a tad bit more anticipated than the first, due to its face time with the Telly. I for one was ecstatic to get my copy that is for sure. Now L4D2 has been out for over five months so I’m letting myself go and popping in spoilers so…this is your Alert, don’t say I didn’t warn you, cause if you do then I’ll have to figure out how to say..you didn’t say it.
Now to get into the game you’ve got to get a feel for what it is trying to tell you. You start off as one of four characters. You can be Nick, the hustler with an attitude problem. Coach, the..uhh..coach with a unhealthy disposition with candy. Rochelle, the producer who is down to “earth”. Then my all time favorite Ellis, the country boy who is about as daft as Toasted Ice Cream. So these are the survivors that come into play this edition of the L4D franchise. However, they’re not alone. With this sequel comes new infected ZOMBIEZ!!!! Which is what really matters. You’ve got the Charger who basicly charges in a straight line at someone, if you miss you’re pretty much useless. The Spitter, who is by far the best edition to the infected crew. She spits this acid like goo on the ground and it does emense damage to whoever steps in it. Then the Jockey. Well whoever thought, “Lets make a jumping head humper, who pulls people.” Must have been reading my secret journal.
(Oh my sweet jocky, why won't you be mine?)
Also, the campaigns are pretty neat. Other than the fact that they’re beautifully designed and really give you a good environmental feel. They have a secret pact with each other! From the first one to the last it is like a movie. They really captured that aspect this go around I think and I applaud them for it. I don’t want to give much away for those who have not played it yet.
Also they’ve introduced multiple new playing modes. They’ve realism, which basically explains itself. There are no highlights over weapons, health kits, gas cans, pills or when someone gets attacked. It is tough and takes a good team to get through it. Then there is scavenge! Which is fun is is a VS based mode, where one team tries to score as many “gas cans” as possible. It gets pretty “heated.” Then there is Survival, which we saw near the end of the first L4D. Just putting the survivors to the limit seeing how long they can hold out is enjoyable.

(As I said, sometimes the situation gets heated.)
Last thing before I wrap this up, Melee weapons! They’re pretty fun. In swarms they can be a life saver, just swing and fling that axe, baseball bat, KATANA, Nightstick, Frying pan…or whatever you can find! They’ve a few others but I’ll leave those for you to find. The game hasn’t changed much aside from that.
Not many gripes to be honest, Gameplay is the same as the first, except now the survivors have to watch for the new infected. Which in all honesty, it has gotten pretty chaotic in VS mode. Stratgey and communication is still the life saver of ANY group and please, please when you play don’t sit there AND NOT HELP. Cause If I see you not helping, I’ll do something slightly unpleasant. Valve is good to its people most of the time. They do need to improve the Charger still. For a somewhat beefy infected he gets mowed down just as easy as a smoker. However, it is missing something L4D2 didn't keep me intrested for some reason, maybe because it is a sequel or it is lacking in luster but overall it is a good game and I personally don't have many issues with it.
Anyway Kiddos! Get out there and kill some Zombies.
