The great Resident Evil series is stretched out yet again.

Alright I’ve been itchin to do a review on a some what new game. So I figured I’d dig in my basket of recently played games and toss around Resident Evil 5. I being a long time fan of the RE series, I actually wasn’t looking forward to RE5. I’d heard and I confirm that the series is becoming less focused on the horror and more focused on the action. However I can’t discredit this game, after playing through it I had to tell myself that it actually wasn’t that bad.
You get a partner in this one, unlike Ashley in RE4 this partner can shoot a gun and is a lot sexier. However, just because this partner can shoot a gun doesn’t mean she can actually aim it. You will find yourself wondering why she decides to only shoot her gun once every three zombies. If you were a fan of the mini little puzzles in RE4 then congratulations they’re in RE5 aswell. Stocked full of shooting little blue medallions and busting open crates that seemed to be camouflaged so you never know what is breakable and what isn’t. If you were a fan of the large inventory that has been in the RE series since RE2, get ready to be de-motivated because here you have two inventories that are around the same size that only let you hold about three weapons, one first aid spray and there is barely enough room for ammo. The storyline is still in there though, you’ll find those documents telling you every little detail leading up to this point and giving you insight on what is going on now. The game gives you a great environmental feel, better than a few previous titles, though nothing spectacular because it is taken away by the fact that there are raging zombies around every corner. Oh and the boss fights….*sigh*. Well lets just say Capcom decided that as you progress the bosses should get bigger…and bigger. Till you get to the last two boss fights, which are perhaps the best fights in the whole game. Weapons are upgradable as to be expected. However, they took out the really awesome merchant from RE4, so instead of hunting around for a merchant you’re blessed with the before a mission, no merchant in sight, inventory. You can still buy things and upgrade your weapons before you go into a mission but I’m going to miss the ever so famous “What are you selling?” I will have to say the grenade launcher is my favorite weapon in the whole game. With interchangeable ammo it is a must have as far as I’m concerned. It shoots explosive, electric, flame, acid, cyro and even flash rounds. So it will pretty much help you out in any situation you can think of the only problem is having a place to put the freaking ammo because your inventory is so limited. The game play is good I enjoyed the game to a point to where I’d come home from classes and play it till I beat it. However, it truly and honestly wasn’t the greatest from the series so I’ll be looking forward to the next release and I’m not getting a Wii to play the newest one.
All in all there are moments in the game when you’ll wish you never bought it and just remembered Resident Evil as it was. Though if you’re looking to get back into the series and you’re used to playing games like CoD, MoH and other shooters then this game can be tailored to pull you back in. It’s a good game and worth a shot plus it has a comeback zombie in it. One that scared the be jesus out of me in RE2. I’d give it away but if you’re looking to buy the game then wouldn’t want to spoil it.
